Item #1: Letter To My Boyfriend
I'm not sure if I'm the only woman who worries about this - sending something to a guy, a boyfriend no less, and not wanting to send anything that is too much on the feminine side - but I was able to find a solution! I really have to thank SparkleGirlJen, aka +Jen Giammarco for sending me these awesome (and SPARKLY) Marvel/Avengers stickers that I used to decorate this envelope. With a little bit of blue washy tape on the back of the envelope as well, it compliments the superhero stickers very well.
I happen to know for a fact that my boyfriend is a Marvel nerd, so I'm sure he'll appreciate what I chose to decorate this envelope with. The note card inside of the envelope is much like the Polaroid note cards I use when sending letters to my pen pals, and it's decorated with an image of some lounge chairs on a beach at sunset. It's cute but not too feminine, and in the card I wrote about how before he knew it we might be able to walk along a warm beach together, once the snow is gone and the heat is here to stay.
Inside of the card I chose to include something else as well. Last time he was over here he got to meet a couple more of my friends, and all in all it was a pretty great night. I felt the urge to share some of myself with him, and my instinctive way of doing that is through my love of words. What I've decided to do is once and a while I am going to send him short pieces of writing that I have come across, recently or over the years, that has spoken to me in one way or another.
Along with my message in the card, I made it very clear that this was not some sort of test XD The both of us have equally expressed our distaste for the atypical woman who enjoys playing mind games. From girls who answer with "I'm fine," to girls who are constantly setting up their boyfriends for failure. I'll admit, I may have inhabited aspects of that type of girl in the past, but I'd like to think I'm beyond that now.
The first piece I decided to share with my boyfriend is Date A Girl Who Reads by Rosemary Urquico. If there's anybody reading this post that has not come across this writing before, whether you're single or in a relationship, I implore you to take a few moments out of your time and allow this piece of writing to make you smile as it touches your heart. I first came across this piece as a Note document on Facebook, but haven't had any trouble finding it since.
Even if my boyfriend doesn't "love" the piece, there's no harm done, and I really do mean that. I'm just hoping that sharing these pieces of myself, these pieces of writing that have caught my attention for one reason or another. I'll be sure to let you all know how this card & writing piece is received. Sure I won't forget to keep you posted.
